I started a new age the other day and with my problems with Max 7 so far (Andy can fill ya all in on that) I went instead and imported a new model from Max 2009 into Blender. Everything exports in Blender fine, but crashes Uru. I tried everything I could think of to fix it without success.

So I thought I would try it in Max 7 instead (I can export as a .3ds file in Max 2009 and Max 7 will read that, thought it won't read a .Max file saved in Max 2009 go figure.) When I try and export it via Cyan's plugin in Max 7 I get the following error.

Convex Hull Creation failed for physical mesh9.mesh94

Any idea how to fix that?

Take a look at the object it's talking about. How many faces does it have? The GoW's plugin had a limit on objects with 8000 faces or more, it would refuse to export.

Cyan's Plugin also has a limit. I just don't know the size yet. I can tell you it doesn't like 10,000 though, hehe.

Also take a look at the modifiers you have on that object. The plugin may not like one of them

What it is throwing up an error about has only 4 faces.

Only modifier it has is Editable Mesh.

Okay, what components do you have assigned to it? What is the object?

Appears the object in question is concave and not convex. I did some checking and a number of objects are that way, possibly too many to try and make convex. Assuming they can be made convex without remodeling the entire thing.

While I love building things in Blender rather than Max (it just seems a whole lot easier to me!), I've exported things as a Wavefront OBJ object, and then imported them into Max.

I've had some mixed results because of doing this. My original ladder in my tutorial for making Ladder and Climb regions in Max, the ladder would not show up in the game!

I would not get any error, and there was absolutely no reason for it. I ended up having to delete it and piece one together in Max.

The reason I made it in Blender originally, is that in Blender I can join objects together, to make one solid object, and that's what I wanted my ladder to be. I still don't know how to do this in Max very well.
But, as I said, when I then imported the object to my scene in Max, while I never got any error messages, it simply refused to show up in the game!

Still not sure why, but I'm betting it had something to do with when I imported it.

So, I guess the bottom line is, it's better to build things in Max (and the same version of Max that you are using Cyan's Plugin with) to build your Age and export it for now. We don't quite understand everything yet either, heh.

Yeah I know all about problems importing. I have scrapped many a model after exporting from Max 2009 and importing to Blender. simply because textures were not showing up correctly.

Anyways I may try and return to this in Blender someday. It will export with no hiccups in Blender. But it crashes Uru each time I link to it. I have yet to find out why that is.
