So about a year ago (yah, been that long), I pretty much wrapped up Age Creation. Or making tutorials for that mater.

The air had turned hostile. People were hostile. At everyone and everything. It was sad to see. It made me so very tired. I'd open up Blender, sigh, and then close it out. I'd open up this forum, start a new topic and try to make more tutorials.....and would close my browser out, not even finishing. What was the point? Who would read any of it? Uru was dying and the community was tearing itself apart. Lines being drawn, and then crossed. It was ugly......still is in many cases.

I pretty much left. Went traveling as it were. I went to Eve. Travel hundreds of parsecs in space. Seen blackholes, pulsars, pirates, war armadas, abondoned stations, huge astroid fields filled with precious minerals. I met many new friends, and made some enemies. Most of the enemies died, some ran.

I went to Facebook. Started a farm. Then another, and then a ranch. I started a Cafe where I cook delightful dishes, and make fists full of money.

I fell tree after tree right here on my land. Clearing a path for a new driveway. Pulling stumps up left and right.
I went to Rochester, New York, and drove all the way back down here. I went into a cave in Chattanooga, and saw the most beautiful spectacal of my life.
I made more homemade beer. Learned some new recipies.
I loaded up and played Fallout 3 and then Bioshock.

Cleaned up my hard drive.

But Blender was still there. So were all the files for it. All the tools.....laying untouched basically.

Then word came down. Victor Laxman had posted on the DRC forum.
That could only mean one thing. I had my eyebrows raised, not daring to hope. But still, the posts were there. It only made sense.
And then the Cavern was opened again.

It's really strange. I have Uru:CC on my computer. I can go to any Age I want. Made by Cyan, or Fan Made.
But walking around in the Cavern.....knowing that so many others were there too.
Something happened.

I opened Blender once more. Only this time.......this time I didn't shut it back down..........

And so it goes. An idea.

No, wait. TWO ideas!

What? Oh hi. Hrmm? Yah, I'm thatAndy. Yes, I'm the one that made Zephyr Cove. What? In Uru Live? No, no. Sorry. It looks pretty, but it's broken. Only the 2nd thing I ever made. It's pretty, but made badly. What? Fix it? Well, I..................

Fix it?

Make that THREE ideas! Fix it hell. I'll rebuild it, from scratch! And the way it was suppose to be made! For speed, for more than one person to be there!

But first things first. Let's get to the first idea......

Something simple, yet will look elegant:
Image

Lets add a bit more to it:
Image

Add some openings here:
Image

Let's add trimming to those archways....and make the top ring much fancier....and a beveled ring up top....
Image

Let's add an office area, with a window, for a view and a hallway to it.....
Image

But let's also start getting some textures in there. Not sure what I want to use, but want to start and see some color now:
Image

But it's getting late........We'll work more tomorrow.....who knows what it will bring?

Ooo, I'm liking the results so far.

Warning: I'm working hard on elevations and sample art for Giloglah, and I will be pounding your age-creation tutorials *hard* once I've got it constructed in Max. ;) I'm looking forward to it.

So a few more hours of work this morning thru lunch.

Adding some pylons with a ring structure up top....

Image

And now to start adding structures for some hanging lights (that I will get to sway like we see in Uru....)
Image

But now to break for a late lunch and play with Josh for a bit.

While getting ready to do more texturing, I wandered down to the Cavern and linked into the Great Tree Pub (aka Watcher's Pub).

I did this in Uru:CC, not online. I don't really like the Watcher's Pub in MOUL.......don't get me wrong, it's very nice looking, but I really didn't like the color scheme that Cyan changed it too. I REALLY like the original Great Tree Pub in Uru:CC, with all it's browns and yellows.

I like to admire how Cyan placed their textures. A wall that is a ring, but instead of a single texture spread over the entire ring, you have several UV mapped textures, so that they walls alternate with what looks basically the same, but has differences from one wall area to the next.

While I was doing this (and thinking of some ideas for my own textures), it suddenly hit me that I've made the Atrium WAY too big.

Here is the Maintainers Pub from MOUL in Blender:

Image

If we select the bottom floor (which is the largest area we can walk around in there), and I hit the "N" key, I can call up the dimensions. As you can see, the X and Y dimensions say 89 blender units. 1 Blender unit = 1 Foot. So we're talking about 89 feet across:
Image

Calling my project up, I took a look at the Atrium floor. It was over 200 feet across! Yikes! So I've cut it in half. This means I have to go back and tweek some things, but we'll get there.

In the mean time, I've been working on some of my own textures with the help of Genetica (thanks again Bob!!):

Are those stairs leading out of the Watcher's Sanctuary behind that big curtain at the front/in front of the imager?

I'm starting to wonder if, with the eventual release of the Guild Hall, all of these Pubs would have eventually been connected to the main island?

Theoretically possible, but still interesting to see the "Age" from outside the game iteration.

When Cyan introduced the "Guild Pubs", what they did was take the "Watchers Pub", removed lots of meshes (IE the room with the clock and rolling ball, the Great Tree Room, etc) and placed colliders so that you would not be able to go to those places (oh, and textures too to make it look like it's just a wall or a curtain).

Then they retextured each one, with the specific textures for each Guild Pub.

It is most certainly possible to physically connect each guild pub together, and have them all one "Age"

All that would have to be done is to import each one into the same blend file (well, Cyan uses 3DS Max). Move them apart some (up at the top of each is a pocket of Cavern. This mesh is quite large and I moved it out of the way for the picture above. They would intersect each other if you had each pub too close.).
Cut the mesh where one of the "Curtains" are. Connect each pub together with some connecting tunnels (imagine the ones in Ae'gura that we go through to get to the Library, that would be cool, complete with water dripping noises!).
Last, but not least, place Vis Regions around each "Pub" so that while you're in one, it's the only one that is rendered on your computer (for better performance, reduces lag, etc).

One down side would be, the main prp file for the pubs is about 2.6 MB big. This would now be 5 times bigger, say around 13 MB, plus some because of adding the connecting tunnels. Not unheard of, as some of the Ages have very large main prp files.
A way around that would be to simply have each pub, and a connecting tunnel, in it's own prp file, and simply create a new .age file (call it something like "Guild_Pub_District.age"), and simply list each prp file to be loaded. That would keep the files between 2.6 to 3.0 mb.

So yes, it is very possible. Someone could even do it for fun using the tools we have now and loaded up on their Uru:CC install. Or someone could do it for their own private shard.

Why Cyan made the pubs the way they did (IE: you have to have that guild's shirt in your wardrobe, and you can only link there through the Nexus), is unknown, but we can hazard a few guesses:

1) They wanted to make the pubs independent of each other, for meetings, and get togethers. Kind of hard to hold a Guild meeting when you have a lot of non-meeting people running through your pub. Flip side of that, is, the pubs are not really private. Anyone can grab a shirt in Kirel and then link there. The only limit being the population Cap.

2) Cyan may of had plans for expanding each pub in a different way (when you start globing things together all in the same Age, you start to limit how you can do things. There are ways around that. Gahreesen is a VERY good example of having a lot of stuff in one place. All the places in Gahreesen are contained within themselves. Where you first link in, The outside, In the main training building, and even the prison up top. Each one is located in a different spot. Your avatar is "warped" to these locations when you enter them. It happens fast, and camera switching is used to avoid you seeing it.).

Okay, got the fountain for the middle of the Atrium built. Took about an hour to do......all to the music of Lego Indiana Jones that my son Josh is playing on the Wii, hehehehe

I guess you're right... and it would be cool if, eventually, special resources or rooms were available to specific Pubs.

Though that kind of thing might require a different kind of way for getting into the Pubs... or "anyone" could get in to these special regions without going through Guild lines...

Meh, whatever =)
