Update: he had been arrested for disorderly conduct and littering around the Discovery Channel Communications building. As for whether or not he's from the west coast, well, that's still up for grabs.

Anybody hear about the hostage situation at the Discovery Channel building in Silver Spring, MD? Apparently it had been going since about 1 pm EDT, and I just heard them announce on the radio that it's over, after about 4 hours. The guy was from the west coast (I don't really know what the significance of that is, outside of it being a long way to go to take hostages), and had a gun and metal canisters of what was presumed to be explosives. It all ended with the police shooting him, and the 3 hostages that he took were all safe. One of the canisters had gone off, but there was no information regarding how much damage was done. Apparently the hostage taker had been unhappy with the Discovery Channel for years, and it was reported that this incident had been mainly over their environmental programming. He's apparently been arrested before at protests (if I heard correctly, against the Discovery Channel, or something like that) on the west coast (I'd assume he was protesting violently). And I mean, really, being upset with a TV station's programming is TOTALLY a valid reason for taking hostages, weilding a gun and explosives, in the same building as a day care center (I had heard that from someone who had been keeping up with the situation). Luckily for the day care center, there was a large glass window that the police broke, and subsequently removed the cribs and children, taking them to the McDonalds across the street. Again, that last part is what I heard from someone who had been watching the situation unfold on TV. I only got the after-the-fact radio report.

Poll permissions were disabled on the entire forum. No idea when that happened. I have re-enabled them only in the Personnel department for now. If we want to set up polls elsewhere, folks will need to let me know and I will re-enable permissions in the appropriate forum.

Try sending Nyn a pm. Though can't you set up a fresh thread with a poll attached? That's what happened with earlier ones. Or is that option crossed out?

Could a mod or admin create a poll for the Proposal currently sitting in limbo at the moment?

I'm sad. I won't be able to make it to the guild fair again. Stupid cross country meets...

The newest "Proposal" in the Personnel section goes to vote on Tuesday. If any Maintainers haven't commented on it, or haven't seen it, please make your way over there.

Well, my first DJing gig went amazingly well. Didn't get to play everything I was really hoping to, but there were a few issues during the party (namely relocating everything from one area to another) that held up play time. Either way, it was really fun, and I can't wait to do it again. Hopefully I will do it again sometime soon.

He's doing okay. Like I said, this was a prevenative measure to keep him from having a stroke or heart attack. After his battle with prostrate cancer, the removal of, and treatment seemed to age him like 15 years. I REALLY hated seeing that (but then he should have been getting checked, grrr). But his health has always been good other than that. But about a month ago, his feet and legs kept loosing feeling, so the doc ran tests and found he had a very high Plax count. So this should all fix that hopefully.

Yay! Well my dad's surgery went okay. They were able to clear both blockages, and he didn't require stints. Get this, they said he could go home by this evening. He just had heart surgery and they're going to send him home? Wow.

Thanks Crazy. Things should go well for him as he's not in as bad of shape as most people, nor has he had a heart attack or stroke yet (not bad for someone that turns 71 on the 28th, who smokes a pack a day and drinks beer, hehe), of course his beer and smoking days are now over with).

I wish him luck, Andy! On a side note, the car actually didn't need that much work this morning. It's blindingly shiny.
